Nearly 1 out of 3 people in will have cancer during their lifetimes.
Cancer touches each one of us in some form or other. Yet, most of us know very little about the disease until it strikes. Cancer Vision Foundation's mission is to provide free, practical, and factual information about all aspects of cancer, with lectures uniquely designed for students ranging from elementary school through high school globally. The purpose of this Global Cancer Biology Education program is to educate children about simple preventive approaches with the goal of reducing their likelihood of cancer as they age. Ultimately this will help to reduce cancer burden globally.
Cancer Education at Schools
To provide cancer prevention education to school children and general public to reduce cancer incidence in the future.
The incidence of cancer is low in children but as they grow into adults, cancer incidence increases dramatically. It takes nearly 20-25 years to develop cancer after exposure to cancer causing agents. By limiting exposure in childhood may eventually reduce the likelihood of getting cancer later in life. So the mission of Cancer Vision Foundation is to educate children now to prevent cancer in their future.
Fun lectures for elementary school children on healthy living habits will be offered. Lecture will be focused on avoiding harmful effects of automobile exhaust, cigarette smoke, pesticides and other chemicals which are known to cause cancer.
Lectures will be focused on information about the structure of normal and cancer cells, cancer cell formation by mutations, development of localized and invasive cancers and cancer spreading to distant organs. Lectures will also outline cancer treatment approaches such as chemotherapy, targeted cancer therapy, personalized cancer treatment and nanotechnology based cancer therapy. The session on cancer prevention approaches will focus on living healthy and avoiding ingestion of unwanted chemicals.
Knowledge about cancer is important, since many of us are at risk to get this disease during our life time. It will minimize cancer fear which is common in our society. Learning cancer prevention tips might help everyone to enjoy cancer free life and may even reduce relapse of cancer in people who are already diagnosed with the disease.
